Street Sweeping and Storm Drain Cleaning
Note: For the month of November, routes normally swept on the 4th Thursday, November 22nd (Thanksgiving), will be swept on the 5th Thursday, November 29th.Street sweeping is an important tool for keeping pollutants out of the storm drain system. It also keeps our neighborhoods clean! Street sweeping removes four major types of pollutants:
- Natural (dirt, leaves)
- Litter (trash, bottles, paper)
- Sediment (dirt, soil)
- Contaminants (oils, combustion byproducts, particles from tires and brake pads)

Storm Drain Cleaning
The CWP is also responsible for overseeing other aspects of municipal maintenance, including keeping storm drains, catch basins and drainage inlets free of pollutants such as trash and leaves, which also ensures that they function optimally and prevent localized flooding. Routine cleaning also reduces the
CountyPublic Works Maintenance road crews maintain the storm drain inlets through a program of annual inspection and cleaning. Road culverts generally are not cleaned as part of this particular program. To report a clogged catch basin or drainage inlet please call Public Works Maintenance at (925) 313-7000.
