Undergraduate College Students
The Contra Costa County Public Defender's Office typically has several undergraduate college interns. Undergraduate interns will learn first-hand the inner workings of the criminal justice system. The experience gained by undergraduate students who volunteer at Contra Costa County Public Defender's Office will provide them with an advantage in applying for jobs within the criminal justice system. The internship will also supply undergraduate students with real world experience to put on an application when applying to graduate school or law school.
Investigation Support: Compilation of a database system of contacts and clients, fax subpoenas, pickup records, assist with social media searches.
Information Technology: Reset passwords, copy and burn disks, assist in audio and video editing, assist with equipment rollouts.
If you are an undergraduate college student and are interested in an internship please send your resume to the Administrative Services Officer, Donna Broussard, at Donna.Broussard@pd.cccounty.us
Social Work Students
The Contra Costa County Public Defender’s office has opportunities for first and second year MSW students or 4th year BASW students to complete field internships. Interns assist staff attorneys by providing written biopsychosocial reports and assessments of adult and juvenile clients.
The interns will use the biopsychosocial model to complete written social history reports, conduct needs assessments and make referrals to community based organizations, substance abuse treatment, or mental health treatment as an alternative to incarceration.
If you are interested in the Social Work Internship program, you may forward resumes and cover letters during the months of February through April to Angelene Musawwir, LCSW at Angelene.Musawwir@pd.cccounty.us
