The Public Works Department first became aware of the slide the afternoon of Tuesday, February 21, 2017.
We closed the road on Friday, February 24, 2017, for safety reasons. The approximate address of the closure is 3149 Morgan Territory Road.
The road and surrounding area continues to be unstable. The slide is still moving. The Public Works Department hired a geotechnical engineering firm. The firm installed inclinometers to measure the movement of the slide. We are also doing field studies and borings to assist with the engineering design for the repair of the slide.
The current detour is use of Morgan Territory to the south at the closure point. This rural one lane road is not ideal for continued detour traffic with multiple small bridges and culvert crossings. The hillsides throughout the area are very saturated. Residents using this route are encouraged to use extreme caution when using this route. Public Works is currently working to make as many improvements on the roadway as possible. These include work on the small bridges, clearing culverts, cleaning up debris left from recent storm events and stabilizing shoulders where vehicles can pull into wide spots throughout the detour.
